The lovingly maintained, traditional Cape exterior is surrounded by lushly landscaped rock gardens including a goldfish pond and miniature waterfall that were featured on the Newton Garden Tour. Once inside, the traditional façade gives way to sunlight streaming through skylights and French doors leading to decks overlooking the gardens.
Floors are polished oak and cherry wood, accented with Persian rugs and kilims. The living room and attached sunroom are surrounded with built-in maple bookcases topped with slate and granite, and a traditional brick working fireplace. The owners' artwork along with paintings and handcrafts from around the world grace the colorful walls. There are plush sofas to relax in, an upright digital piano to play, a collection of hundreds of CD's to listen to. A half-bath with original "tuxedo" tiles is located next to the living room.
The tile and butcher-block open kitchen is fully equipped with all amenities including gas range, dishwasher, disposal, microwave. While eating breakfast on bentwood chairs at the oak table, watch the birds in the back garden through the wall of glass doors.
Need a first-floor bedroom with it's own bath and private entrance? The lucky person who sleeps here will wake up in the morning to radiant-heated cherry floors, and will be lulled asleep by water sounds. Glass doors open out to a large deck facing the pond and waterfall. Custom maple and cherry sliding doors are covered in pale green silk and slide over the glass doors like shoji screens, for privacy. The attached bath has heated slate floors, bathtub/shower lined in granite, windows, and a skylight for watching the clouds.
Up a short flight of oak steps, you're greeted with soaring ceilings and views of treetops and sky. In the daytime, sunlight from skylights and clerestory windows wraps you in light and warmth. At night, star light-fixtures from Mexico create a romantic glow.
The master bedroom fills one side of the upstairs house. From the bed you can watch clouds and stars through triangular windows. There's a wicker rocking chair for reading, antique bureaus and vanity, and a walk-in closet. On the opposite side upstairs is another large bedroom with it's own sleeping loft, skylight, and triangle windows. A separate office has everything you need to get work done - Internet cable connection, WIFI router, a sweeping, wood-trimmed desk, bookshelves and files.
After a day of work or pleasure, bliss-out in the 2-person custom granite Jacuzzi as moonlight shines through clerestory windows. The upstairs bath is trimmed in cedar and mahogany woods with jet-mist granite countertops and granite stone floor shower wall.
Cold Spring Park conservation land with wooded jogging trail, fields and tennis courts is right across the street. Walk 2 blocks to the swimming beach at Crystal Lake. The lovely village of Newton Highlands with shops, restaurants, and the Green-line train to Boston, is just a 5 minute walk away.
